Write your story here and share at least ONE tips to overcome that fear. Then give comments to your friend's story and tips. You can say "I have the same story" or "That happens to me to" or for the tips, you can say "That tips works very well" or simply agreeing "I second that".

My own fear for example is to mispronounce words that I say.

What I usually do to overcome that fear is by rehearsing before I speak before public. But sometimes we can't do that like when we have to deliver an improptu speech. It's also good to check the pronunciation of some key words or terms that we are going to use.

I have some experience when I speak in public, where I feel nervous and sometimes my hands start to cool in every show. But I try to enjoy and control my self. Confidence is the most important and confident in yourself. I looked at the audience and made them believe in me. Make it interesting to see and pay attention to me. When I read a poem, I use body language and expression to make me comfortable. These are several tips that I used in every show.

I had some experiences about public speaking. One of them was being an MC on the night of Independent Day in my village. I was so nervous because I would be an MC in front of my neighbors who are adults and older than I. I always felt shaky when I did that. I tried to be relaxed because there was my friend among of them. She gave me support from there. I tried to make some jokes and used body language to make me relax.

The recent public speaking that I've done is speaking in the front of the class for explaining some materials. I'm so nervous, feeling so weird, and still thinking about what should I say and do in the front of the class. What I've done to overcome this matter is taking a deep breath, trying to speak as fluent as I can, and enjoying the anxiety as a positive energy.

I think the most important thing that we can do to overcome the anxiety in public speaking is how we calm ourselves down.

Back when I was in junior high school, I joined an Arabic speech competition. The preparation was about 2 weeks but since the topic was quite unfamiliar and the language level is higher than what I've studied, I was unable to memorize all of the speech text. In D-Day, in the morning, suddenly I forgot almost all of the text :( Entering the class, watching other participants did better than me, I felt less confidence. When it's my turn, i was stuttering. In the end, I only delivered the speech less than 60% of the text.

Ā

Even now in college, I'm still struggling to overcome nervousness and the effect of it (sweating, heartbeat rising,Ā stuttering).

Ā

For me, being prepared is the most important. (Not always memorizing the text/script. It can be just memorize the points of the topic or understand the text.)

I have some experiences of speaking in front of theĀ public. The recent one is speaking as a coordinator of a division for an event, where you need to report the progress in a big forum. I’m surroundedĀ by friends whom I know well, well some are not really. Still, I felt nervous. I doubted myself a lot and was afraid if I’d say something stupid and embarrassed myself (lol). What I’ve done to overcome that fear was focusing on myself and what I'd say, not on what people would *possibly* think of me. It’s necessary to think of others’ reactionĀ but try to think only the positive ones I guess? I also assure myself that what I say is needed to be said.

I think the most important thing is to find what roots the fear first, find the exact problem of what really causes the fear. I’m sure people will find a way after that.

I think you should try to acknowledge it when you feel it coming. Be aware of the situation, recognize that it's happening. I hope you'll find out soon, Ana :D

The greatest experience I've ever had is when I was in Junior High School. I was recommended by my English teacher to join a story telling contest. I was pretty shy then when it comes to something that I have to speak in front of a lot of people plus I have to act based on my story. when I standing on the stage, suddenly I got a bit blank and messed up my story.

Fortunately I got Through to the next section of the contest and got some advice from my teacher. She told me that it would be good if you think or imagine this as when you have a practice at school.

I always have anxiety when it comes to public speaking. I will feel nervous and even forget what I want to say or have prepared. That's what I fear most, to be speechless in front of others. When I was in high school, I braced myself to join a speech competition (I don't think I was thinking straight at that time. It's like I did it unconsciously). So, I had prepared everything. I practiced for a week. Then the day came. I did a lot of mistake. My mind was so blank and I only could deliver the half of my speech because I ran out of time. That was so embarrassing. Since then, I don't want to join any speech competition. For now, I think I've been able to overcome my fear to speak in public, but only in one occasion, like doing presentation in class or just speaking in front of my classmates. I can't imagine myself speaking in "bigger" public.

Because I still can't fully overcome my fear of speaking in public, I don't have tips to share. The only thing I want to say is just be yourself.

I had a pretty severe problems with presenting something to the public back when I was a high school student. One day I had to perform in a choir and my feet would no stop shaking even after the performance. Presenting my work in the class was not an easy things either. I tended to stutter when I had to do something in front of public. In college, my fear is still there but it is not that bugging to me. If I get nervous, I tend to play with my fingers but thankfully it is not that obvious to the audience. Sometimes, I will go with my dad to practice my public speaking. I guess practices really help with your confidence, and of course it needs time to get used to it.

I have a story when I was in junior high school. I had to do story telling for a competition. I had been practicing everyday, so I was sure that I could do well. However, the reality did not go as I expected. Suddenly I couldn’t think about what I had to say. Freeze...

I think, I spoke without coordinating with my brain, it was flowing as my practice before. Actually, I don’t really know how I call that situation. :ā€)

You (it should be me) might be have to take a deep breath before start to speak in front of public and try to get your confidence.

At first i feel nervous, anxiety, and forget what i want to speak. I can't speak when people is watching me. I am speechless. Back when i was in Junior High School, i wanted to be famous. So, i joined Student Council Organization. Fortunately, i became the candidate of the Student Council President. Each of the candidate must spoke in front of the people and showed their goals. I didn't know why i can spoke so fluently in front of the people. I just avoided eye contact. Finally, i became the Student Council President. After that, my teacher always asked Ā me to be the MC when my school had an event.

Ā

My tip is only one. Just do it.Ā

My greatest experience? well I used to work at an art studio where you have to present your work to client and stuff like that, one time I and few of my friend got an order from a "big" client, we do our job, no problem whatsoever, it was easy for us, but......... then came the day when we have to present it to them, well.... I can proudly say that I did a great job.... embrassing myself (LOL), my mistake is I didnt prepare my speech very well and I doubted my self a lot, I have that "medok" accent, so when I speak in English or even in Bahasa Indonesia I fear that the audience will laugh at my accent, I fear that they will focus more on my accent than my speech.

Long story short, I learned a lot from that experience, dont overthink about what audience think of you, think of them as an being inferior to you haha, seriously, focus on your speech not on the audience, afterall when your speech is so good they wont notice your appearence and your accent, maybe.

The recent experience that I had when speaking in front of public that I quite remember is when I had to speech at inauguration of some committee. I felt very nervous and shy because the audiences do not know of me and I have not known of them. In contrast, I try to channeling my fear into excitement. I think the tips to public speaking is just to prepare and face the fear try to control it and turns it to your energy.Ā

I had my first experience on public speaking when I was in junior highscool. It was a ceremony on monday and it will be a speech of president of student council election. I felt realy nervous because it was my first experience giving a 'real' speech. My hand was shaking when I held a paper where my speech was written. So, I decided to place my hand behind my back and didn't read that at all. I started to speak based on what I could remember. Everything was going well and only the other candidate knew that my hand was shaking because they stood behind me.

My tips is same as what Mrs. Ella said last week. We have to arrive earlier when we will have a speech or mc-ing. When I was told about this tips, I tried it. I had to be an mc in an event with more than 200 people. Because of I also be a cometee, I arrive earlier to prepare everything and I try to look around where will I stand and mc-ing later on. When the event started, I feel relaxed and I can enjoy my speech because I was there for a while and it's really help.

IĀ haveĀ experienceĀ ofĀ publicĀ speaking.Ā InĀ elementaryĀ school, i won a speech contest. Sometimes become an MC in informal event. Even I won and have experience become an MC, IĀ stillĀ notĀ confidenceĀ andĀ gettingĀ nervousĀ almostĀ every IĀ spokeĀ infrontĀ ofĀ manyĀ people.Ā TheĀ problemsĀ areĀ sameĀ withĀ other: nervous. I will lost some my word when nervous. So, I try to solve this problem with prepare well. Then, pratice it much.Ā Third,Ā itĀ willĀ beĀ soundĀ odd: try to getting nervous on the back stage before stand on the stage. Look around and smile to audience. So, when IĀ speech, I will not nervous.Ā ItĀ isĀ work :D

I have some trouble when it comes to public speaking because i didn't like to speak in public. I will become nervous and my palm become cold. I'm afraid my friends or the audience will laught at me. My first experience was when I'm in junior high school, I had to read the meaning of Quran and it's sudden. However, now, I cope my nervousness with think possitive and doing exercise public speaking by joining organization. I also try to feel familiar with the situation, try to ignore my audience, and prepared first.

As someone who would rather be reading a book at home than speaking in public, it took me a long time to figure how to give a good presentation despite being nervous. I'm not a good speaker, and I was very nervous. When I was in Senior High School, a few hours before I had to talk in front of people in a classroom, I got a queasy feeling in my stomach that won’t go away. I didn't want to do anything. I just wanted to cancel it, so I didn't have to deal with the stress. Actually I didn't feel comfortable with this situation. My hands got sweaty before I spoke in front of class. I felt like I want to run away. I was afraid if there’s nobody who cared about what I said to them. However, I had to do what I have to do. When I started to speak in front of class, I didn't try to make eye contact with my friends. I tried to be more focused, because I prepared it before. I tried to enjoy it. After it was done, I felt relief. Yeah, everything worked out fine.

I think before you are speaking in public you have to try to calm yourself down. Don’t think too much.

when i'm as student in SMP my teacher always asked me, spoke in front of my friends (in the class), such as opening class or speech. i'm very uncontrolled but i can handle it.

I have experiences speaks in front of audiences at forum discussion which is attended from another students from another SMA , i'm very nervous because i can't handle myself. So, in 11 grades my teacher Mr.Dion gave me some tips to eliminate nervous: take a deep breath, stretch your legs, watch the wall before you speak in front of audiences, and after that you must look at the audiences. but my tip is i'm minus, so i didnt wear glasses, which is i can't saw the audiences expression hehe.

Ā  In UNY, i speaks at UKM for the first time, i never feel nervous (again) i used the tips from my teacher but my big problem are i dont know how to arrange the topics because the topics is running into my brain but very difficult to speak that and didnt know how to make an interesting topics
