This course is designed in such a way that after attending it, students (a) indicate positive attitudes to learning vocabulary in all its aspects; (b) have a good knowledge of both content and function words at the 4000 word level in terms of form, meaning, and use in different contexts, including idioms, collocations, and word formation through derivatives; and (c) possess skills of choosing and using the right words to express meanings (ideas, feelings, attitudes, opinions, and thoughts) in intended contexts. To ensure the achievement of these target competencies, the course covers the following points: the role of vocabulary in learning a language,  meanings of words in different contexts, word families, word formation, multi-word units, collocations, homonyms, polysemes,  synonyms and antonyms, hyponyms, lexical fields, collocations and idioms, denotation and connotation, ways of remembering words, what makes a word difficult, preventing learners from forgetting words, dictionary skills, vocabulary training. Classroom learning activities includes individual work, pair work, and small group work of identifying words (form and meaning) used in a text, analyzing and expanding words, using words receptively and productively, consulting the dictionary efficiently and effectively, and solving problems of forgetting. Students’ learning progress will be assessed through classroom participation, assignments, and tests.

This course is intended to give students experinces to do linguistic analysis and present it orally. The topics covers the recent and up to date linguistic issues both microlinguistics and macrolinguistis. The lectures are in the form of individual presentation and assignments. Assesments are based on class participation, paper, assignment, and presentation.

Mata Kuliah ini bertujuan memberi bekal kompetensi kepada mahasiswa untuk memanfaatkan teknik-teknik analisis statistik, baik yang berkaitan dengan kegiatan pembelajaran, misal­nya dalam penilaian kemampuan ber­bahasa, maupun yang berkaitan de­ngan penelitian. Bahan kuliah meli­puti dasar-dasar statistik, jenis-jenis data, penyajian data dalam bentuk chart dan tabel, statistik deskriptif, dan pengujian hipotesis. Kegiatan perkuliahan dilaksanakan melalui kuliah di dalam kelas, diskusi, praktik pemanfaatan program komputer un­tuk melakukan analisis statistik, tugas individu dan tugas kelompok. Peni­laian dilakukan dengan memper­tim­bangkan hasil ujian tengah semester, hasil ujian akhir semester, tugas ke­lompok dan tugas individu, serta ke­aktifan mahasiswa dalam kegiatan per­kuliahan.
